Huican Zhu, Ph.D., is a Founder and Managing Partner of AMINO Capital, bringing deep technical expertise and global leadership experience to venture investing. Prior to venture capital, Dr. Zhu was an early member of Google, joining in 2000 when the company had fewer than 100 employees. He played a pivotal role in advancing Google’s research initiatives, pioneering Google Image Search, and becoming the first senior Chinese engineer and senior manager at the company. He also helped establish Google’s Beijing office from the ground up. From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Zhu served as Chief Architect and General Manager of Infrastructure at Tencent, where he led large-scale technical operations. A respected computer vision researcher, he has authored influential work with over 12,000 academic citations. Dr. Zhu earned his B.E. from Sun Yat-sen University, his M.S. from the National Academy of Sciences, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He currently serves on the boards of Weee! and the UC Santa Barbara Foundation, is a board member of The Harker School, and is President of the Zhu Family Foundation. He has over 15 years of experience investing in high-growth companies, including AppFolio (NASDAQ: APPF).
